Through the Lens

A Photography Workshop with Kristen Hudson Nichols at White Feather Farm

Saturday, February 27th | 2pm-5pm | $25/per person

Photography is everywhere today, thanks to smartphones and social media. So often, we snap photos without ever thinking about what we are doing and many of us rarely even revisit the photos in our camera roll. But what if we were more thoughtful, more mindful of our subjects in front of our lens? If rather than hastily snapping a photograph, we took the time to really see what’s in front of us, to find what we think is beautiful about something and capture that. That’s when photography changes from a simple image to artistic expression.

This one-day workshop is designed to help you discover your own viewpoint through the medium of photography. We will discuss the technical basics of photography and personal story-telling through the medium, using the skills and techniques we’ll learn in the first part of the workshop.

We will be heading out onto the farm to find our inspiration, and from there, we’ll create a story using imagery.

At the end of the workshop, we’ll each discuss what we created and explain how it was created and why.

What you’ll need

- A Camera (NO SMARTPHONES or TABLETS)

- If you don’t have a camera, you can draw what you see - so bring a drawing pad and preferred drawing utensils

- Warm Clothes - we’ll be outside in the cold winter to find our photographic muses!

This workshop is geared toward kids and adolescents, ages 10-18
